Telehealth

Your Health Insurance Likely Covers Telehealth as of March 2020

Fortunately, insurance companies are recognizing the need for telehealth services and have approved this as part of their benefit plans. All of the insurances I am in-network with at Hope’s Journey Counseling Services Counseling will pay for telehealth the same as they will pay for a therapy session that happens in the office.

Telehealth is a great option for many clients who aren’t sure how they will fit therapy sessions into their busy schedules. Or maybe a lack of child care or transportation limits you from seeking services. Whatever the reason, telehealth is more convenient often times than driving to an appointment that occurs in the office.

How Does Telehealth Work?

At Hope’s Journey Counseling Services, I provide online counseling through a confidential, HIPAA secure platform that is integrated into my Electronic Health Record called Simple Practice. This software is easy to use, does not require any downloads and provides the platform to conduct the session (similar to Skype or FaceTime, but with more security).

While receiving therapy services on an online platform may be new and may cause some feelings of uncertainty for you at first , I think online counseling is a “win-win” for both the therapist and the client. I am excited that the insurance companies I work with are recognizing how important telehealth is to increase access to mental health care and are now covering these sessions.
